Kate Winslet Won't Put Up With False Stories

Kate Winslet has agreed to a financial settlement with a British magazine over a story claiming the actress was consulting a diet doctor. The curvy star -- an outspoken opponent of Hollywood's growing obsession with size zero -- was furious when Grazia magazine reported she was taking desperate measures to shed weight by visiting a Chinese Healing Institute in Santa Monica, Calif. She announced plans to sue the publication last month. Friday, the publication apologized and conceded Winslet went to the doctor in connection with a neck problem. A "substantial" monetary settlement will be donated to an eating disorder charity. In a statement Grazia says, "We are satisfied that she did not go to (a doctor) seeking any treatment for weight loss. "We are very happy to set the record straight and sincerely apologize to Kate for the distress caused." Through her lawyer, Winslet added, "I am delighted that this matter has been resolved, and the record set straight. I am not a hypocrite. I have always been, and shall continue to be, honest when it comes to body/weight issues."

Kate Winslet's latest Oscar nomination was a delight as she was told she would only have an acting career playing fat girls.The curvy star has received her fifth Academy Award nomination for Best Actress for her part in 'Little Children' and said she has been "leaping around" because she is so happy. Kate said: "I've been laughing, crying, hollering, whooping and leaping around."This isn't supposed to happen to a girl who grew up in a tiny town. I was told the only way I'd have a career as an actress would be if I could settle for playing fat girls."Golden Globe winner Jennifer Hudson is still in shock after being nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in 'Dreamgirls'. Jennifer said: "I'm sitting here in shock right now. I can't believe it. To be able to be here today and be a part of such greatness, there are no words for it. It's hard to even get past this moment right now. I don't want to get to crying, but this is so far beyond anything."Veteran British actor Peter O'Toole has received his eighth Best Actor Oscar nomination for his starring role in 'Venus'. The 74-year-old - who was first nominated in 1962 for 'Lawrence of Arabia' -said: "If you fail the first time, try, try, try, try, try, try and try again."

Leonardo DiCaprio wanted to give up acting for a time after the hit movie "Titanic.'' DiCaprio was back to being considered a "another piece of cute meat'' after the 1997 film's spectacular box office success, an image he had wanted to get away after his days on the cover of teen magazines, he told Newsweek for editions on newsstands Monday. "It was pretty disheartening to be objectified like that. I wanted to stop acting for a little bit,'' he said at the magazine's Oscar panel discussion with other actors. "It changed my life in a lot of ways, but at the same time, I can't say that it didn't give me opportunities. It made me, for the first time, in control of my career.'' After many successful movies and critical acclaim, DiCaprio said he loves acting. "There's no other art form in the world that affects me more. There's nothing that I walk away from feeling transformed by the way I do with cinema,'' he said. DiCaprio starred in a cast featuring Jack Nicholson, Matt Damon and others in "The Departed,'' which earned Martin Scorsese a Golden Globe for best director.

BRAD PITT AND KATE WINSLET AT PALM SPRINGS INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

Brad Pitt and Kate Winslet were among the actors honoured at the Palm Springs International Film Festival 2007 Gala Awards on Saturday. Pitt's desert-based drama 'Babel' and the critically acclaimed 'Little Children', which stars Winslet, received multiple gongs at the ceremony,which is widely considered to be a good indicator for the upcoming Oscar nominations.

The 'Babel' cast - which, apart from Pitt, includes Cate Blanchett, Adriana Barraza and Rinko Kikuchi - took home the Ensemble Performance Award.Pitt said about the movie: "I love the under current of this film, and that is the inability, sometimes, to understand where the other side is coming from."Blanchett also accepted the festival's Career Achievement Award.Winslet won the Desert Palm Achievement for Acting award for her performance in 'Little Children'. She said: "What's fantastic about the nominations is that hopefully people will go and see the movie."'Little Children' director Todd Field won the Sonny Bono Visionary Award -named after the late mayor of Palm Springs, who founded the festival in 1989. Jessica Biel was honoured with the Rising Star Award for her performance in turn-on\f-the century romance 'The Illusionist'. After being presented with the accolade by actress Sienna Miller, Biel said:"I was nothing but pleased, even though I've been working for a long time."Among the other winners was comedy 'Little Miss Sunshine', which took the Chairman's Vanguard Award, while Jennifer Hudson was recognised for her breakthrough performance in 'Dreamgirls'.The festival runs until January 15.

Kate Winslet says her husband would leave her if she ever had plastic surgery.The 'Holiday' actress - who is married to film director Sam Mendez - insists she will never go under the surgeon's knife because Sam would not approve. She told In Style magazine: "I am pathetically intrigued by the notion but Sam would leave me if I did anything like that."The 31-year-old star is adamant she has no interest in changing her appearance because she is completely satisfied with her body and looks. Despite having a hugely successful movie career, Winslet insists she is happiest being a mother to her two children Alfie, three, and Mia, six - from previous marriage with film director Jim Threapleton. She explained: "Mia said to me the other day in the car, 'Mom, I love your cooking.' To me, it was an incredibly triumphant moment, the fact that she observed I do cook their meals. It's great when the mom can be a person who represents those nurturing things for kids. My mom certainly was that."
